PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
